Sawsan
Nasser Zahara (szahara@massasoit.mass.edu) has taught in the department
of modern languages for a year and a half. She is originally from
Beirut, Lebanon and arrived in the US in 1986 on a student Visa, with a
government grant, to study at Boston University. She has a B.A.
English language and literature (1983 Lebanon), a MEd in TESOL (1987
Boston University), and an EdD in Language, Literacy, and culture (1994
Boston University). She has taught English in middle school and
ESL in high school in Lebanon, ESL at Boston University, Roxbury
Community College, Beirut Arab University, Lebanese University,
Stonehill College, and Massasoit Community College. She has
taught English Composition I and II at American University of Beirut
and Bridgewater State College. She has also taught courses in
teacher education and supervised student teachers at Lebanese
University, School of Education. Sawsan participated in writing
the new curriculum for the government of Lebanon at the National Center
for Educational Research and Development, a national textbook for
grades 9-12, and evaluation procedure textbooks for teachers at grades
9-12. Since arriving at Massasoit, she has started an Arabic
language program.
